On March 21, South Korea released the "First National carbon neutrality · Green Development Basic Plan" (2023-2042) government plan, which plans to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and strive to reduce carbon emissions by 40% by 2030 compared with 2018. Solar energy is considered one of the key areas of South Korea's green transformation, with an estimated additional installed capacity of 27 gigawatts between 2022 and 2034, reaching a total installed capacity of 45.6 gigawatts. Compared to wind energy, solar energy is more cost-effective, as it accounts for 62% of the total installed capacity of renewable energy in 2021. The cost of solar power generation is already close to or comparable to that of the power grid, and it is expected that its cost will further decrease in the coming years.
